Welly Road Gets The Boot In!

On Sunday (13th) myself and other volunteers ventured over to Oxton to investigate the Welly Road project, set up by Alison Smith. It's aims were to get the community on Wellington Road involved with eachother, everybody from residents to local buisnesses.

Alison told us how the response had been overwhelming, with donations of plants, and wellingtons, from all kinds of places and people. The involvement of the community was apparent, as every few minutes someone would veture past and say hello!

Not only did the project achieve it's aim of connecting people with one another, the road also looked fantastic, and Charlie had a great time pointing out all the wellies to me! There were only 200 or so...!

As an artist interested in the re-use of discarded materials, Alison and her team have plenty other ideas for the area, which may come to fruition in the not-too-distant future.

Here's some photos I took anyway, and if you want to know a bit more, the facebook page for the project can be found here.

A big thanks to Alison and everyone else I met for their time and sharing their findings with us!
